How to Make Vatli Dal
Here is the step by step preparation
Ingredients:
- 1 Cup Chana dal (Bengal Gram Dal)
- 2 Green Chillies
- 1 ½ tsp ginger paste
- 1 tbsp Oil
- 1 tsp Mustard seeds
- 1 tsp Cumin seeds (Jeera)
- ½ tsp Asafoetida (hing)
- ½ tsp Turmeric powder (Haldi)
- Curry leaves - handful
- Salt - as required
- A Drop of Stevia
- 1 tsp Lemon juice
- Coriander (Dhania) Leaves - handful, chopped
Method
- Soak Chana dal in water for about 8 hours or over midnight.
- Drain water completely.
- Grind dal in to a coarse paste with green chilies and ginger paste.
- Ensure you do not add water to grind the dal.
- Heat oil in a pan.
- After the oil is hot, add mustard seeds, curry leaves, and cumin seeds.
- Allow it to splutter.
- Once they splutter, add asafoetida and turmeric.
- Add ground chana dal paste.
- Sauté well.
- Sauté on medium heat continuously for about 10 minutes without the lid.
- Cook until the mixture looks dry.
- The dal might stick to the bottom.
- Hence, ensure to stir continuously.
- Once the dal is dry and looks like crumble, garnish with chopped coriander leaves, and drizzle lemon juice on the top.
